Ayurveda in brief
Ayurveda is a traditional Indian medicine. 100% natural, Ayurveda is above all a holistic and preventive system of medicine, bringing a balance of life to each individual.
This knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine has been transmitted orally in India by a lineage of Indian sages, called Rishis, for more than 5,000 years. It was not until 1982 that this ancestral traditional medicine was recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization).
This holistic approach to health, which aims to harmonize mental, physical, and emotional well-being, is based on the effects of the 5 elements (water, fire, air, earth, ether) on our lives.
Thus, Ayurveda allows everyone to be an agent of their own well-being and health by adopting a way of life in harmony with nature.
In the West, one of the pillars of Ayurveda is already practiced and widespread: Yoga. However, the practice of this gentle medicine involves various means such as diet, phytotherapy (using plants as remedies), body care (massage, self-massage, etc.), as well as breathing and meditation.
What is the goal of Ayurveda?
Ayurveda teaches us to listen to ourselves, to know ourselves in order to best facilitate our lifestyle and stay as close as possible to our state of balance!
This medicine also teaches us to stay healthy, to live better and longer. To do this, we need good physical condition combined with good mental and emotional health. In Ayurveda, joy plays a major role in a person's good health. This emotion allows us to feel in harmony with ourselves and to be more serene, to fully enjoy life. The more in tune we are with ourselves, the better we manage our emotions, the better we understand ourselves and others.
In Sanskrit, "ayur" means life and "veda" means science or knowledge. Ayurveda is therefore the science of life or longevity.
The Main Principles of Ayurveda
THE 5 ELEMENTS
According to Ayurvedic medicine, everything around us is composed of 5 great elements: Ether or space, air, fire, water, and earth.
These elements make up the universe and create the human body. We therefore have all the elements within us, and we are a reflection of the universe.
What is it?
The doshas
Doshas are the main "constitutional types" or "prakriti" in Ayurveda, also known as Ayurvedic profiles. They govern all physical and psychological processes in our lives.
Each individual is a mixture of the three doshas in unequal proportions, and one of the three doshas sometimes predominates over the others. This is how "Ayurvedic imbalances" or "vikruti" occur, where a dosha is temporarily exacerbated.
Ayurvedic imbalances change regularly and have many causes (particular events, life stages, season, age, diet, lifestyle habits...).
Ayurveda provides personalized advice based on these imbalances. The goal is to keep a person healthy by giving them 100% natural advice according to their current Ayurvedic imbalance. All this to live better and longer!
